(i got his name from the world 'elf' because he's so tiny and active)
I've been thinking of having another hamster since last year because i missed having a furball around. My previous hamster died 2 years ago and i didn't want to have another pet so soon, also because i was really busy with work.
2 days ago, i had dinner with my dad and we visited the pet shop. Elfie caught our attention because he was so hyperactive! He kept running on the wheel and fooling around with the other hammies. Haha.
While dad bought Elfie for me as a gift, i got the other basics: bedding, food, teething (he has been chewing off the corners of my strawberry, which is good because my previous hamsters don't), cooling house, bathing house, bathing sand, exercise ball, disinfectant spray and of course, a cage (which comes with a jogging wheel, food bowl and bottle).
I initially wanted a double storey cage but was convinced to get this because of the compact roof compartment and the broad base. My previous cages were quite small and did not have enough free space.
It was rather fun to design Eflie's cage and think of where to put the stuff. Read online that the position of items shouldn't change because hammies need time to get used to their surrounding and they do remember where everything is. A new scent or relocation will cause stress in them, especially in their first week.
Been talking to Elfie to get it used to my voice and offering him treats from my hand. He's been quite tame so far and doesn't bite the cage bars. Hopefully, i'll be able to carry him by next month!
