My Superhero Daddy

Today is his 61st birthday and as i wrote his birthday card, i couldn't help but to feel emotional, knowing that for a fact, age is also catching up.

Many people know that my dad is the closest person i have in my life because he has been my primary care-giver, even until now. Whenever i feel sick, he would not hesitate to put his work on hold or forgo his sleep to send me to the clinic. He would buy me food when i can't get out of bed or when i'm staying up late to finish my assignments. Twice, when i was hospitalised, he would visit me every morning and night and only leave when i fall asleep.

I vividly remember this incident that happened when i was in primary 3. That was the time i started developing asthma and would suddenly have difficulty in breathing. My old house was a walk away from TTSH and my dad did not drive. So, we would usually walk up that dreaded slope in order to get to the A&E. That night, my dad carried me on his back. And that obese daughter of his was literally a huge burden.

Not to mention, the long waiting hours at A&E drove me nuts but my dad would patiently wait with me without any complaint. He would usually get a hot drink or snack for me so that i'll not go hungry. But the next day, while i could rest at home with an MC, he still had to wake up early and go to work.

Besides taking care of me, he puts up with me and doesn't mind going the extra mile to help me whenever i needed a favour from him. i remember being really stressed out in primary school with all the overwhelming homework, but he would stay up to help me or get weird stuff for my art lessons. And he would accompany me to school on saturday mornings for CCA when he could be sleeping in on a weekend. My dad is always there whenever i performed or receive an award. His presence and smiling face meant so much.

There are so many things to say about how important my dad is in my life but it would probably be endless. Now that i'm working and that he's not in the best of health, i hope to take care of him the way he has taken care of me.

Daddy, i wish you good health and many more years of celebrating your birthday today. i love you.
