Hong Kong

Got back from HK this week, feeling more tired than recharged. We didn't wake up very early but the pace of life was too fast for us to catch up.

DAY ONE

We arrived late due to traffic congestion, both on the roads and in the air. No kidding. Our plane had to take a different route to land. We didn't have lunch and only grabbed some bread to eat on the airport shuttle bus.

Thankfully, we didn't have to wait to check in to our room at Butterfly on Prat. After dumping our stuff, we headed down to Prince Edward for shopping and dinner.

Our first proper meal, which was a comforting bowl of beef noodles. i encountered a bit of culture shock after drinking from my glass of warm water when Clara told me that everyone else dipped their chopsticks into their cup like this...

Just as i was questioning whether the water was drinkable, i saw another table with nearly empty cups, which meant that they'd drank from their cups. So i'm still pretty confused - drink it or dunk it?

Anyway, we walked around K11, which is a shopping mall near our hotel and were amazed by the cute decorations they had.

These were real books and i like how the books are so orderly disorderly.

A polar bear that matched my denim outfit that day! :)

DAY TWO

We began our day in search of the legendary Tai Cheong Bakery egg tarts. After alighting at Central MTR Station, we were greeted by the big brands.

After getting lost and climbing up (and down, and up) some slopes, we finally reached!

I got the egg tarts and BBQ pork pie, along with 2 boxes of egg rolls for my family and the boyfriend's. The pie wasn't good but the piping hot egg tarts are to die for!

As there isn't anywhere to sit and savour our egg tarts, we popped by the nearby cafe to devour our precious egg tarts. The flaky pastry is slightly salted and the egg custard is velvety smooth. i'm gratified :)

Next, we went to shelley street, which was where running man was filmed, with the long escalator.

And then, it's soho! A pity our stomachs were too full from the egg tarts to try any of the bars there.

But we made it a point to try the famous roast goose at Yung Kee Restaurant.

Serves 2 and cost us only 140 HKD. Super nice! Tastes pretty much like roast duck to me except that the skin is slightly different.

We spent the later part of the day combing Argyle Centre like crazy and lugged back lots of loot. Stuff there were cheap but the shops were so tiny, it felt almost claustrophobic. The weekend crowd made things worse and it was so warm inside.

So we dropped by Langham Mall for some air-con and food, to rest our tired feet.

Dinner at match too cafe.

And curry fish balls for supper. Times like this, i wished i had four stomachs to try everything  here!

DAY THREE

Spent our day at Macau and i shall post separately for this.

DAY FOUR

Had tim sum breakfast at Dao Xiang Restaurant which was just a 5 minute walk from our hotel. At 9 am, the place was already busy with customers. And we ordered all the must-haves...

After checking out of our hotel, we cabbed down to the airport to deposit our luggage and continued shopping at Citygate Outlets. We actually got lost on our way back because we took the same number bus that was heading to the terminal instead of the airport, because the bus stop is at the same place.

I'm glad that the locals understood my sloppy cantonese in asking for directions. We survived!
