The birthday

Another year of blessings and love from the ones who matter. My birthday wouldn't be what it was because of these people and i'm thankful for them

Before 12 midnight, daddy came back from work to cut the birthday cake with me. He was so sweet to get an ice cream cake from baskin robbins during his break. Love you, daddy!

The ice cream cake that melted very quickly, haha. But it's still the yummiest birthday cake ever, especially with the strawberry ice cream inside. It was heart-warming to see my family taking turns to get a bite, knowing that they don't fancy sweet stuff.

And then, it was the actual day.

Courtesy of my colleague's very cool table calendar.

I was pleasantly surprised to see gifts that were left on my table when i reached. It really made my day, early in the morning.

It's not the presents but the thoughts that count. Hand-made cards, words from the heart and lovingly baked muffins and cookies. Thank you dear colleagues for the heart work and for being my pillar of strength at work :)

We all happened to be brightly dressed that day too! Which was unusual for a typical tuesday.

Lunch was a humble but delicious fish and chips from the newly-opened western food stall across our school. My student has been earnestly promoting it because it's someone he knows and i must say that it's not bad.

Went home early to skype with the boyfriend (and a few minutes of his mum). Then i went out again to meet the girls for dinner at sumiya. Although there were some unpleasant hiccups, i'm really touched that they took time off for me.

While waiting for the babes to finish work, i had some "me" time inside the restaurant.

Their beer is reasonably priced which explains why every table drank beer. And cold beer, i realised, is quite therapeutic.

Anyway, i got started on some sides as i was pretty hungry and i highly recommend their takoyaki and wagyu beef stick.

Their takoyaki is the best that i've eaten so far. The sauce is perfect and the portion is generous. The wagyu beef melts in your mouth with every bite. Although it costs 10 bucks for just one stick, it was awesome beyond words. You gotta try this if you're a beef lover like me!

Chawanmushi was good too. i was informed of a 20 minutes waiting time and i understood why good things are worth waiting for.

When Shan reached, we ordered more stuff to share. It was quite scary to see two girls ordering this much...

Super thick cut and fresh salmon sashimi, lobster salad (another recommended dish), cold udon, steamed rice cake soup and assorted yakitori.

Gerry and Jiamin joined us much later and more food were added to our table, of which i took particular interest in the truffle fries. i've a thing for fat fries.

They also had this $6 per grab of edamame where you can grab as many as you can. It's very interesting because the staff will come with this japanese drum and beat it. So everyone's attention is pretty much on you lol.

Of course, Gerry's huge hands got us an overflowing basin of it, which we couldn't finish in the end.

The night literally ended off with a big bang when the crazy girlfriends sang me a birthday song with bestie hitting the drum.

Yep, the staff joined in too. Of course, what's a meetup without commemorative photos?

Cheers to our 16 years of friendship and counting. Here's to growing old, ladies! Love you loads.
