In our congested little island, queuing up and waiting is always a problem. A hungry woman is an angry woman, and a hungry-angry woman just cannot wait for 30 minutes. i miss NZ where every brunch place values their customers. We are treated warmly and there's absolutely no lack of seats.
Some of my fave brunch places...
The Coffee Club
A franchise with lots of outlets in North Island, but remains consistent with their quality of food. i simply love their all day breakfast menu.
Comforting hot drinks for winter: latte and hot chocolate. Chicken club sandwich and eggs benedict with smoked salmon as our mains. A very filling combination for two!
Captains Restaurant
At Queenstown Mall. There are many brunch choices there but we decided on this as there was a nice fireplace haha. The interior is very cosy, from their dining area all the way to the toilet. i like how their seat covers are made of wood, which keeps the cold away. Spacious too. i like!
Both of us ordered the big breakfast because they looked so good. Other customers were having it too and it really tastes as good as it looks!
We ordered different style of eggs. Xue mei ordered the sunny side up while i stayed with the poached eggs. The hash brown was the best thing on the platter!
Fork and Tap
At Arrowtown, which is further up from Queenstown. Their homemade seafood chowder deserves special mention because it is just so awesome!
Generous seafood ingredients in thick base. Xue mei ordered fish and chips which was equally good too. But i still prefer the one in Clevedon.
Of Pies and Pastries...
Pies in NZ are especially yummy (and filling). I've never eaten so many pies in a span of 2 weeks but i never get sick of them. i've eaten pies from different shops and they all taste good. Crispy crust and generous portion.
Potato top pie at the top, from a nearby bakery near the Teo's. The one below is mince 'n cheese pie from an award-winning pie shop at Botany. Greenland Bakery & Cafe is a must-try! Loved their pies so much that we bought 4 cold pies each back to SG.
More pastries from Glenorchy Cafe & Bar. The strawberry shortcake was soooooooo nice! No sour strawberries :)
Georgie pie is the latest mcdonald's hype in NZ. At least it is a more legitimate reason than hello kitty (to me). Each customer is limited to only 2 pies and we were lucky enough to get our hands on it. What can i say? Yums!
O, Kiwi! O, Kiwi! Thou'st made me a deprived Singaporean. LAH.
