Had a great time, all thanks to my wonderful xue mei for her awesome company and my supportive BF. That's 2 things struck off my wish list:
1. Visit Queenstown
2. Bungy!
Some concerned friends have asked me about my bungy experience haha and i'll come to that later...
(save the best for the last!)
Queenstown is the sourthernmost part of the world i've been to so far and a really scenic place. The landscape is dominated by snow-capped mountains and lakes.
View from our hotel, overlooking Lake Wakatipu, which is NZ's longest lake.
Love this pic, taken from the bus on our way to Glenorchy.
A bird's eye view from the summit of Bob's Peak where we played the luge (operated by the same company as the one in Sentosa).
Lake Manapouri on our Doutbful Sound cruise. Doubtful Sound is also one of NZ's most isolated fiords.
From the waterfront near Queenstown Mall. Even the town area has a nice scenery. Its like almost every picture taken from every nook and cranny of Queenstown has both the alpine and lake view.
To be honest, the highlight of my trip wasn't the bungy but this!
Dart River Jet Safaris (Wilderness Safari)
This tour is the best of both worlds because it combines scenery and action. Love it!
I wanted to visit Glenorchy where Lord of the Rings and other hollywood movies were filmed. So i was delighted to know that it also included a guided wilderness walk and jet boat experience. More adventure is good!
After passing Paradise road, standing on the site where Wolverine, LOTR and Hobbit were filmed.
Who would have thought that this tall tree had a hollow tree trunk?
Its really spacious inside! Our guide said it could accommodate a group of 10 people at once. Wow.
Can you spot the monkey-looking koala bear that is clinging on to this tree?
A chair belonging to the Hobbit crew. Weighing 200 kg and requiring 4 men to carry it up, this huge chair created the illusion of making the Hobbits look small.
I was so thankful that our guide offered us some hot tomato soup before our jet boat as we didn't have breakfast in the morning. Although the intention was to warm us up, it was really comforting for my starving body. Thanks Ian!
Us looking like cold, fat penguins. The cold wind was cutting my face and my hair flew everywhere lol! Glad that they had heated handrails. This was way better than the one in Auckland. Love the scenic backdrop!
The water was pretty rough and there was this singaporean couple who went on the funyak tour in this freezing temperature. i think they are either mad or adventurous. And they seemed to be struggling when we were speeding across the lake. Oh well.
The quiet town of Glenorchy with only 250 residents. Lots of cafes and bars for a small town.
Of course. What's winter without snow?
The first sight of snow in Queenstown was in Arrowtown. The place of gold rush. The post office and National Bank of New Zealand buildings are still around, though the latter has been renovated into a museum.
More snow on our way up to Coronet Peak for snow skiing the next day...
Snow up there was rather heavy and the lifts had to be stalled but it didn't affect us since we only ventured into the beginner's area haha. It was so snowy and cold that our hair turned into icicles. Should have taken a picture of the 90-year old looking us, tsk!
Shall stop here for now (lots of work to do grrr...) and update my bungy on a separate post another time.
