On the morning of 19 June, we had a light breakfast at starbucks (i didn't want to jump on an empty stomach out in the cold).
And we talked about everything but bungy. It seemed like i've not come to terms with reality yet.
We reported at 9.40 am at the Queenstown Visitor Centre for our 10 am booking. The bus took us up to Kawarau Bridge which is about 20 minutes drive. When we arrived, our weight was taken and we filled up some form. After dumping our stuff in the locker, we went out to the wet bridge.
I didn't dare look down at this moment, lest i get into a panic attack. The next thing i knew, i jumped into the harness and felt really cold without my winter jacket on.
My mind was a blank and i didn't feel anything. No anxiety, no excitement. Just calm (and cold!). Ping went before me and she jumped off so easily, i thought to myself... Hey, this isn't scary!
Boy, i was sooooooooo wrong!
It started to feel scary when i was asked to stand on the edge of the ledge, with both legs tied together. But i was still doing ok and could smile into the camera.
And wave (as i was told).
Twice. But when i looked down, i went... OHMYGOD! i was screaming before i knew it. Man, i shouldn't have looked down. Then the guy told me to reach out for the bridge ahead of me.
That. And he literally held my hand out to reach for it. This was captured on the video and i looked really retarded. i looked like a half-paralysed Rose in the Titanic scene. Except that i wasn't flying, i was jumping.
I was getting super scared and when the guy counted down, i couldn't jump. i wasn't ready! So i tried again to calm myself down. i must say it isn't that scary but really nerve-wrecking for an acrophobia-freak.
Anyway on my last attempt, everything happened so quickly that the next moment, i was doing ballet in the air. The scariest part is the initial drop when i felt that my heart was going to come out of my mouth, literally.
Then i started to feel really dizzy and saw a blank sheet of white before i could take in the scenery around me.
I was holding on to my harness for support at the moment where i flipped over, head down.
And i looked like some dangling sardine. It didn't felt like i was going down until the guy below told me to grab the pole and smile at the camera, yet again.
Still feeling dizzy and blank. i couldn't think. It went on for quite some time and sweet xue mei got me a cup of hot chocolate at the cafe.
I still can't believe that i did the bungy. The whole experience was a surreal affair. Which ended too quickly.
We survived and got our certs haha! Thank you for cheering me on! ♥
